Most Frequently Asked Questions

What is Children’s Cove?

Children’s Cove is where healing begins for child victims of sexual abuse and their non-offending family members. Children’s Cove provides a coordinated, multi-agency approach to the investigation, intervention and treatment of child sexual abuse and physical abuse. Together with our partner agencies (Cape Cod Healthcare, The Cape & Island’s District Attorney’s Office, the Department of Children & Families, the Department of Mental Health, Barnstable County, and local and state law enforcement) Children’s Cove provides unbiased, non-leading, non-suggestive forensic interviews and a variety of services that provide hope and healing to abuse victims.

Why is Children’s Cove necessary?

Before Children’s Cove, children were often “re-victimized” through unnecessary and repetitive interviews due to each agency’s independent process. This process led to duplication of efforts between various departments while also complicating the information for the child’s case in an already complex legal system. Children’s Cove helps overcome these problems by reducing the child trauma in a child-friendly environment while enhancing the investigation, resulting in improved lives for child victims.
