Cape Cod Commission launches new Data Cape Cod site

Interactive datasets designed to support data-driven decision making

For Immediate Release (February 18, 2022)  The Cape Cod Commission has launched a new Data Cape Cod website that makes complex data and information about the region’s people, places, and economy more accessible.

The Cape Cod Commission originally developed Data Cape Cod to provide local and regional datasets that support planning, economic development, and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.  The site was built from the Commission’s COVID-19 data dashboard framework, created during the onset of the pandemic, and has continued to evolve to include more and updated data sets. Data Cape Cod increases transparency around local and regional economic progress and enhances information access to support data-driven decision-making.

Data Cape Cod includes information across a host of topics, such as the region’s year-round and seasonal populations, real estate trends, housing affordability, unemployment data, small business information, and other economic metrics. Features like the Cape Cod Census Data Viewer allow users to explore a map showing median home values, household earnings, and per capita income. The site also incorporates information previously found at statscapecod.org.

More than 20 interactive dashboards and maps allow users to filter and dig deeper into data to better suit their specific needs. Tooltips that appear when users hover over certain data points provide additional information and sources. Users can utilize a search function to help identify different data or dashboards that may be of interest. While the dashboards and maps primarily focus on economic and demographic information, several of the Cape Cod Commission’s decision support tools are incorporated into the site, which provide insight into areas such as climate change, coastal resilience, and water quality

“The Commission serves as a critical resource for data and information to help communities better understand changes in the Cape’s economy, population, and housing market,” said Kristy Senatori, Cape Cod Commission Executive Director. “We look forward to sharing this new data site to increase access to information, analysis, and decision support tools in our region.

The launch of this new site marks the beginning of an even more robust data sharing platform for the region. It will continually be updated, refined, and enhanced to provide useful and up-to-date information for towns, non-profits, residents, and other interested stakeholders. As the region evolves and the needs, challenges, and questions faced change, so too will Data Cape Cod.
