Cape Cod Cooperative Extension Marine Program Works in Cooperation with the Woods Hole Sea Grant Program
The Woods Hole Sea Grant Marine Team got to Provincetown before the sun last week. Working with one of the shellfish growers there, they planted several hundred little surf clams in experimental plots. The goal is to see if the Northern or the Southern subspecies of surf clams will grow faster. Small surf clams are also called ‘butter clams’ and the Marine Team is exploring the potential for them to be grown in Cape Cod waters on aquaculture grants along with oysters and quahogs.
The Cape Cod Cooperative Extension Marine Program carries out its mission in cooperation with the Woods Hole Sea Grant Program at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Funding for SEMAC activities is provided by the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources.
The goal of the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension Marine Program is to establish, develop and carry out education programs in marine resource development, to assist with problems concerning coastal industries and the management of coastal resources, and to transfer technological innovations, educational and informational materials to public officials, educators, and marine user groups.
