February 11, 2020 – Eastham, Truro, Wellfleet, and Bourne, MA- The Cape Cod Cooperative Extension and AmeriCorps Cape Cod conducted two water festivals across the Cape throughout the month of January. Eastham Elementary hosted not only their own students, but Wellfleet and Truro students as well, on January 10th, while Bourne Intermediate hosted the festival for their 4th grade students on January 24th.

“WetFest is a great way to teach kids about the importance of protecting the environment, while having a whole lot of fun!” – Jordanne Feldman, AmeriCorps Cape Cod Member

Including all four schools, the festival, called WET Fest, taught over 300 students across grades 3-5 about protecting Cape Cod’s source of drinking water. AmeriCorps Cape Cod members facilitated many hands-on activities including “D.O. the Limbo” in which students learned about factors that influence dissolved oxygen and “Flush the Kids” where students crawled through a large septic tank model. Four more schools will be hosting WET Fests in the upcoming month.
