Barnstable County takes stock in wake of wind event

  • The BCREPC Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC) was activated at 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
  • No Regional Emergency Shelter System activation is planned at this time.

BARNSTABLE (MA) October 17, 2019 – The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) held a conference call at 10:30 a.m. October 17, 2019, to review the effects of the high winds that pummeled Cape Cod and the region overnight and continuing into Thursday.

Intense low pressure over central NH will continue to slowly pull away. However, the intense pressure gradient between departing low pressure and high pressure to the west will create an increase in winds during the day Thursday. A high-wind warning has been re-issued for the Cape and Islands until 6 p.m. Thursday.

Electric utility Eversource is in the process of cutting and clearing, restoring, and doing damage assessment. Please stay away from downed poles and wires that could be energized and extremely dangerous. Report a power outage online or call 800-592-2000. Sign-up to receive outage and restoration updates via text, email or phone. By signing up to receive text updates, you’ll also be able to report an outage by text message and receive on-demand updates.

The BCREPC Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC) operated by the Barnstable County All Hazards Incident Management Team was activated at 7:30 a.m. Thursday to assist local agencies as required.

No Regional Emergency Shelter System activation is planned at this time, but the BCREPC will continue to assess the situation.
