Cape Cod Smart Transportation Week  June 23 – 29, 2019

BARNSTABLE COUNTY, MA—The Cape Cod Commission (CCC) and the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) and our transportation partners in the region will be promoting smart transportation options on Cape Cod during the week of June 23-29. Throughout the week, a series of activities will promote the use of transportation modes which reduce traffic impacts caused by single-occupant vehicles throughout the Cape.  From our world-class bike trails to the Steamship Authority and Hy-Line ferry services, Cape Cod has transportation choices to get you where you need to go – reducing congestion and helping us all breathe a little easier.

Cape Cod Smart Transportation Week is an annual event designated as the last week in June by the Barnstable County Commissioners.  Transportation week supports ongoing work by the CCC and the CCRTA to plan for and assist in implementing improvements to the region’s transportation infrastructure and services.  Creative commuters can log in their “smart” trips (e.g., carpooling, transit, bike, walking, etc.) into Agile Mile (www.agilemile.com) to find greener travel options and earn rewards.

Cape Cod Smart Transportation Week 2019 will feature several events and activities, including:

Monday, June 24, 2019 – Bus Transportation Day

Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority, Peter Pan Bus Company, Plymouth & Brockton and other bus operators provide Cape Cod residents and visitors with mobility options around the Cape and beyond.
Tweet a photo of your smart commute with the hashtag #capecodsmart and be entered into a drawing to win a free CCRTA 31-Day fixed route pass.

Peter Pan Bus Lines is celebrating Transportation Week with the launch of their partnership with CCRTA. The two transportation services came together to provide better transportation on Cape Cod. The event will take place on Monday, June 24th at 10 am, at the Hyannis Transportation Center located at 215 Iyannough Rd, Hyannis, MA.

The launch will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Thomas Cahir Administrator for the CCRTA and Peter Picknelly, Peter Pan CEO.  After, attendees are invited to enjoy light refreshments and tour the inside of a brand new Peter Pan bus. Media and the public are welcome to attend.

Tuesday, June 25, 2019 – Ferry Day and Aviation Day

On this day, Smart Transportation Week will focus on the important role that water transportation plays in linking the Cape to Boston and the Islands.  The Steamship Authority and Hy-Line Ferry are partners in providing a robust multi-modal network for Cape residents and visitors.

This summer, Hy-Line is offering an evening special to the Vineyard from Hyannis, for only $25 round trip!  A few hours are just enough time to give you a little taste of Martha’s Vineyard.  Leave Hyannis on the ferry at four-fifty, arriving in downtown Oak Bluffs in one hour, and depart Oak Bluffs that same night. Some restrictions apply.  Visit us online at hylinecruises.com for details.

The Steamship Authority is offering a $50 Same Day Round-Trip Fare to Nantucket. This special round-trip fare from Hyannis to Nantucket on their high-speed ferry offers an affordable day trip to Nantucket for both visitors and residents on Cape Cod. Passengers can travel on the same day round-trip on the high-speed ferry from Hyannis to Nantucket Monday through Thursday at the following rates: Adults:$50.00; Senior Citizens*:$40.00; Children (ages 5-12):$25.00. To reserve this round-trip rate, visit https://www.steamshipauthority.com/reservations/tickets or call 508-495-FAST.

Barnstable Municipal Airport‘s purpose is to provide a safe and superb air travel experience and high-quality aviation activities to the citizens of the Town of Barnstable, the Cape Cod region, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As a non-hub primary airport and a major transportation facility, their goal is to foster local economic growth; and to ensure that the airport remains an integral part of the regional transportation plan in an effort to meet the demand for present and future air travel.  The Airport welcomes the celebration of Smart Transportation Week 2019 by imploring citizens to utilize this regional airport facility for your traveling needs or even your community event needs. Did you know that the Airport hosts a number of events right in the terminal?  From Cape Cod Young Professional’s Annual Back to Business Bash with over 900 people in attendance to Cape Cod Concert Band’s weekly practice location (the acoustics are great)! Come by the Airport on Tuesday, June 25th for giveaways.
