News Regarding Housing Court and the Tenancy Preservation Program

Last year the Housing Court was expanded to the Cape and Islands, however the closest location of the Court was in Plymouth, MA. We are pleased to announce that effective Wednesday, February 27, 2019 Housing Court cases will be heard in Barnstable at the Barnstable Division of the District Court, Fourth Session, located at 3195 Main Street, Barnstable, MA.

ABOUT THE HOUSING COURT: The Housing Court hears eviction cases, small claims cases, and civil actions involving personal injury, property damage, breach of contract, discrimination, and other claims. The Housing Court also hears code enforcement actions and appeals of local zoning board decisions that affect residential housing. Led by Chief Justice Timothy F. Sullivan, the Housing Court has 10 judges. The Housing Court has 6 divisions: Central, Eastern, Metro South, Northeast, Southeast, and Western.

Additionally, our region now has our own TENANCY PRESERVATION PROGRAM (TPP) Coordinator to help residents with disabilities avoid losing their housing. Andrew O’Dell works for Father Bill’s and Mainspring and can be reached either by email at aodell@helpfbms.org or by phone at (508) 944-9233.
