Barnstable County Receives “Risk Management Best Practices” Award from the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association

February 12, 2019 – In recognition of their commitment to workplace safety, the DPW and Public Utilities Facilities Roundtable of Barnstable County has earned the “Risk Management Best Practices” award from the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA), the County’s property and casualty insurance provider. MIIA presented the award during the association’s annual meeting in Boston on January 19th.

“The DPW and Public Utilities Facilities Roundtable is an excellent opportunity for Barnstable County to ensure collaboration and communication between regional and local government on employee safety programs,” said Sean O’Brien, Director, Barnstable County’s Department of Health and Environment.

Barnstable County Commissioner Ronald Bergstrom displays the MIAA Risk Management Award.

The annual MIIA Risk Management award recognizes excellence and sustained commitment to risk management throughout a member community.

“Congratulations to the towns of Barnstable County for collaborating to drive safety best practices and mitigate risk,” said Stephen Batchelder, Director, Risk Management for MIIA. “This Roundtable has built a strong foundation for safety awareness, knowledge sharing and active dialogue.”

The DPW and Public Utilities Facilities Roundtable of Barnstable County was created to combine neighboring forces, to reach their collective safety & health goals and objectives. Working together as a team of experienced municipal managers they seek to enhance workplace safety in their DPW and Public Utilities departments. Many agencies at the state of Massachusetts level are regarding this approach as innovative and progressive.
