Update: LOCATION CHANGE – Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod Welcomes 23 New Members
BARNSTABLE COUNTY, MA –

Due to the weather forecast, the Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod Pledge Ceremony will be moved to the Harborview Conference Room of the Barnstable County Complex at 3195 Main Street, Barnstable. The event will still begin at 9:00am on Wednesday, September 26th, 2018. Previous full release is below.

Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod will be holding a ceremony to welcome 23 new members in the Harborview Conference Room at the Barnstable County Complex on Wednesday, September 26th, at 9:00 am. The 20th corps of ACC members arrived on September 4, 2018, and they will spend the next 11 months serving 1,700 hours apiece to address the environmental and disaster-preparedness needs of Cape Cod.

ACC members contribute their time, talents and energy to a remarkably wide range of projects including shellfish propagation, disaster sheltering, herring run clearing, wildland fuel reduction, dolphin stranding response, environmental program delivery for school children, coastal erosion control, and invasive species removal.

Each AmeriCorps member is required to serve 1,700 hours, with the entire corps contributing more than 35,000 hours of service worth over $1,000,000 to Barnstable County communities over the next year.
The ACC Year 20 corps is the latest in a succession of young women and men who have served on Cape Cod since 1999. AmeriCorps members have served 830,000 hours since the program’s inception, which translates into an estimated program value of more than $25,000,000 accruing to Cape towns, state and federal agencies, and non-profit organizations engaged in natural resource management (land and water conservation), disaster preparedness and response, and environmental and community education.
