NAHMMA Recognizes Barnstable County’s Kalliope Chute

Kalliope Chute, the Hazardous Materials Environmental Specialist at Barnstable County’s Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, was recognized for the impact she is making across Barnstable County last week at the NAHMMA National Conference (North American Hazardous Materials Management Association) in Portland, Maine.

Kalliope’s role at Barnstable County is to help protect Cape Cod’s unique drinking water source, an unconfined, sole source aquifer. She does this by creating and managing programs that divert hazardous waste and contaminants of concern from the waste stream (or dumping) to appropriate and legal disposal methods and helping to educate Cape Codders of all ages on the importance of our aquifer.

Kalliope received two awards:

The Agents of Change Award recognizes and celebrates those individuals in the industry who go “above and beyond” to make a difference. They consistently achieve outstanding results and work diligently and creatively to protect people and the environment.

The Hometown Hero Award is given to the individuals who have gone above and beyond by putting on a national conference that reflects the shared values of NAHMMA.

The North America Hazardous Materials Management Association (NAHMMA) is a non-profit, membership-based association of individuals, businesses, government officials, academia, and non-profit organizations dedicated to pollution prevention and reducing the hazardous components entering municipal waste streams from households, small businesses and other entities.  Learn more at https://nahmma.org/
