AmeriCorps Cape Cod Year 19 Comes to a Close

Thursday, July 26, 2018 – After completing 11 months of service with the Cape Cod National Seashore, town Natural Resource Departments, IFAW and many other service partners across Cape Cod, 31 members gathered at the Tilden Arts Center at Cape Cod Community College along with family, friends and members of the community for AmeriCorps Cape Cod’s Year 19 graduation ceremony.

The graduation signifies the completion of each member’s 11- months and 1700 hours of service to the Cape Cod community. The ceremony featured speeches from Jack Yunits, County Administrator, Roger Dunn,  Program Officer at Massachusetts Services Alliance, Brian Carlstrom, Superintendent at the Cape Cod National Seashore, and Hal Minis, President of the Brewster Conservation Trust.  Presentation of Graduation Certificates were presented by Cape Cod National Seashore Fire Management Officer Dave Crary, and Program Coordinator Daniel Schell.  Several members reported on the Fire Corps, signature events, individual placements, and the Disaster Preparedness and Response Report.

AmeriCorps is a federally funded national service movement overseen by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Often referred to as the “Domestic Peace Corps,” AmeriCorps engages Americans of different ages and backgrounds in service to address the most critical needs in our nation’s communities.

AmeriCorps Cape Cod is one of the most highly regarded AmeriCorps programs nationally and has thrived throughout its 19 years of dedicated service, performed by countless members. This program has been extremely successful in its endeavors, building strong relationships in the community with over 120 Town, County, State, Federal, non-profit, and community based departments and organizations. AmeriCorps Cape Cod concentrates its efforts on areas of natural resource management projects and disaster preparedness and response.
