For Immediate Release: Barnstable County to Close Last Regional Shelter

The Regional Emergency Shelter at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School will close at 12 p.m. today. A reception center is open at the American Red Cross Chapter House at 286 South Street, Hyannis
BARNSTABLE (MA) March 5, 2018 – At its 10 a.m. March 5, 2018, conference call, the Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) reviewed the current conditions on Cape Cod and the status of the Regional Shelter System consolidation plan.
The shelter at the Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich will close at 12 p.m. Monday. The shelter hosted around 20 people Sunday night into Monday morning.
On Sunday night, the County opened an auxiliary shelter at the Harbor View Conference Room at the Department of Health and Environment at the County Complex in Barnstable Village, but no clients were hosted.
On Monday morning the American Red Cross opened a reception center at its chapter house at 286 South Street in Hyannis at 8 a.m. Monday.
The Barnstable County Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC) will operate until further notice.
The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee would like to thank its shelter partners for their extraordinary efforts during this major event: Barnstable County All Hazards Incident Management Team; the police, fire, and emergency management departments of Cape Cod; the school districts of Falmouth and Barnstable and the Cape Cod Regional Technical High School; Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority; American Red Cross; Cape Cod Medical Reserve Corps; AmeriCorps Cape Cod; Cape Cod Amateur Radio Emergency Services; Cape Cod Disaster Animal Response Team; Lower Cape Animal Shelter Team; and Falmouth and Yarmouth-Dennis Community Emergency Response Teams. Thanks to MEMA and Eversource for their support at the MACC. A special thanks to Cape Medical Supply for providing oxygen tanks and generators for the shelters.
